This 5 hour virtual conference will cover the following:
10am-11am: Mixed Member Partnerships

This session will serve as a refresher on the tax rules covering mixed member partnerships and will include:

Morning Break
11-12 noon: Tax Investigations & COP8/9 for Partnerships, Helen McGhee, Joseph Hage Aaronson LLP
When HMRC suspect tax fraud they can pursue the taxpayer either via criminal prosecution or by conducting a civil investigation under Code of Practice 9 prompting the taxpayer to use the Contractual Disclosure Facility to make a complete and accurate disclosure of the tax misdemeanour and receive immunity from criminal prosecution.
When a taxpayer is subject to a COP9 investigation great care is needed to navigate the process, it is vital that the taxpayer understands the severity of the investigation at every turn and the report is drafted in meticulous detail.
This session will cover the following:
- What is COP8 and COP9 and criteria for each
- Key changes to the COP9 process over the years
- Advantages of using COP9 process for HMRC and the taxpayer
- Mechanics of how COP9 works- including penalties and a focus on HMRC v Tooth
- Top tips for navigating COP9
- A word on legal professional privilege
12-1pm: SDLT & Partnerships, Andrew Constable, Kingston Smith
The SDLT rules are notoriously complex, and as potential SDLT liabilities have increased over recent years having an awareness of the various issues has become more important than ever.
This session will cover the following:
- Key SDLT issues in partnership and LLP scenarios
- The detailed provisions that relate to partnerships and LLPs in FA 2003 Sch 15
- The implications of other more general rules
Break for lunch
2-3pm: Latest on Incorporation of Partnerships, Nick Wright, Jerroms Miller Specialist Tax
This session will cover the latest practical issues on incorporating a partnership.
Afternoon break
3.15-4.15pm: Partnership Disposals, Pete Miller, Miller Tax Partnership
This final session will cover the following:
