An Introduction to Licensing IP Rights - Live at Your Desk
Introduction
Licensing provides a means for intellectual property rights holders to exploit their intellectual property rights and is often the mechanism which makes investing in intellectual property at the outset commercially viable. In essence, licensing intellectual property can provide a financial ‘reward’ for stumping up the investment to secure the IP in the first place. Of course, not all licences are royalty bearing and there may be other commercial considerations why a licensor may choose to license its intellectual property to a third party.
In this virtual classroom seminar, we will recap the basic underlying principles of licensing and consider the four ‘W’s: Why we license, What can be licensed, Where to license and, Who can do what?
The session will be interactive delving into practical examples and drafting considerations to allow you to apply what you have learnt. We will also look at the lifecycle of a licensing transaction (including termination) and briefly touch on the differences between a licensing and assignment arrangement.
This session will allow you to draw on a wealth of practical IP experience from our speakers and should provide you with the platform to be better equipped when faced with licensing questions in the future.
