European Environmental Law - The Latest Update
Introduction
Developments in environmental law continue at pace within the European Union following Brexit and need to be considered urgently by those whose clients have interests extending to continental Europe. Even for those who do not, developments in the EU may point to future policies and laws in the UK.
This virtual classroom seminar will consider the major initiatives of the European Commission: the Green Deal and the Circular Economy as well as the most important legislative proposals arising from them including CS3D which will have a major impact on companies trading with the EU.
Brexit has added further layers of complexity, with retained EU law and amended EU retained law applying in Great Britain, but now subject to the Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Act 2023.
Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland Protocol which applies for most but not all EU environmental law in Northern Ireland has been improved by the Windsor Framework.
The Trade and Cooperation Agreement governs how the EU and the UK will work together and diverge in the future.
This 3-hour session will consider all these topics and assess the prospects for environmental law and the regulatory burdens and benefits for industry.
