Introduction

This live broadcast session looks at the routine public order offences encountered in court such as street fights, football hooliganism, prison riots and closing-time trouble.

It also considers the increasing problem of political protests, such as those outside Parliament or climate change demonstrations. Protests can be difficult to prosecute given human rights case law but equally, difficult to defend without knowing that law.

Using up-to-date case law, the ingredients of the main offences and defences are examined with the tactical and evidential considerations involved.

The session is aimed at both prosecution and defence advocates.

Where the Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Act 2022 or the Judicial Review & Courts Act 2022 have implemented changes to legislation, the course will include these updates where relevant to subject matter.

Now includes the new s4B POA 1986 - a must for practitioners from police station reps to Crown Court Advocates.

This area of law is very topical right now given the events of summer. Autumn and the New Year will see many contested cases and ancillary order applications. There’s never been a better time to refresh your knowledge of this subject.
